Methylene chloride, also known as dichloromethane, is a highly vapourisable solvent used in chemical R&D and manufacturing. It has a boiling point of 40 ?C, but it is not flammable or combustible. It is simply prepared by the chlorination of methane. Methylene chloride is used as a solvent in pharmaceuticals, drugs, film coatings, paints, and electronics. In particular, industries used dichloromethane for adhesives, solvents, refrigerants, and cleaning agents. Dichloromethane is also used in household products. Long-term and short-term exposure to methylene chloride mainly affects the central nervous system, but short-term exposure can be cured by avoiding contact with methylene chloride.
